According to a recent report published by MIT Technology Review collaborating with Ericsson has revealed that the rise of 5G is set to represent a new generation of mobile technology starting from 2021. There will be an ample amount of opportunities for real enterprise digital transformation through a host of new services, technologies, and ecosystems.
The report also states that service providers’ revenues from their existing services are likely to grow by .75% annually until 2030. It also said that at the same time, new value-added services will be able to boost their revenues to 11% annually by introducing an additional revenue opportunity of $700 billion.
One of the industries with the highest potential of transformation is deemed the healthcare sector, the report suggests. The dedicated network and ultra-high-speed internet with zero latency will enable live and real-time monitoring. It will also open windows for telemedicine and remote surgeries which will be e revolutionary step into the future. “Service providers must be ready to monetize these kinds of new opportunities.” it reads.
“Partnering with the CSP and an IoT healthcare service provider, the hospital can get a dedicated network slice and edge storage, as well as the processing and AI capabilities to analyze patients’ vital signs as quickly as possible. Service providers need to charge for the network slice and each specific data type that flows inside it, to bill the edge services and to control each hospital partner with their own hierarchies of devices.” the report says giving an example of a hospital with 5G connected devices to patients with 24×7 tracking and monitoring.
Ericsson Digital Monetization Platform already supports 5G service-based architecture and interfaces. Hence, they offer the co-creation environment to launch loT-based offerings with partners based on templates which will allow them to create multiple compelling services faster. Ericsson DMP might just be the key to Digital BSS innovation in the future.
