Twitter to launch ‘paid’ Super Follows subscription for users

Twitter has announced a feature named Super Follows that will allow users to charge their followers for exclusive access and benefits. This is considered to be one of the biggest changes on the microblogging platform in recent times.

Super Follows give several benefits to the users in exchange for a certain charge. These benefits include,

  • Bonus Tweet
  • A supporters’ badge for the followers
  • Newsletter subscription

Twitter has explained his move to be a method that would let content creators and publishers earn directly through their followers.

A similar business model has previously been introduced on several platforms including Facebook and YouTube. It has worked pretty well. In fact, there is a subscription service named Patreon which is highly popular among creators. According to rumours, Twitter might charge a small cut on the payments as subscriptions will an alternate source of revenue for the users.

There was also another feature announcement made by Twitter on Thursday. A new feature called Communities has been announced which is a similar concept to Facebook Groups. It will let users see more post about things they are actually interested in. A handy option for the newcomers to the platform since people can be unsure of how to use the platform.

No specific timeline regarding the launch has been mentioned by the microblogging site.
