Mamata Banerjee is likely to return as the Chief Minister for the third consecutive term. TMC is currently leading in 214 seats as they accomplish the clean sweep of 2016 where the party acquired 211 seats out of 294. While speaking to party workers from her Kalighat residence, the TMC supremo said “This is Bengal’s victory”.
Ms Banerjee also addressed the COVID situation stating, “All Covid protocols must be maintained. There will be no victory procession, for now, a decision on that will be taken later.”
Meanwhile, BJP Kailash Vijayvargiya has congratulated Mamata Banerjee for the TMC’s astounding performance in the Bengal elections and said his party would introspect the poll results. Vijayvargiya also said that he has received a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has inquired about the party’s poor show.
The battle between Adhikari and incumbent CM Mamata Banerjee in the Nandigram seat was one of the contests to watch out for. However, the results are still unclear. Some leads are suggesting Suvendu has won with almost 1900 votes.
On the other hand, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday hailed Mamata Banerjee as the “Tigress of Bengal”. It is “not easy to defeat Banerjee”, even though the BJP worked hard and put in a lot of investment during the polls in West Bengal, Raut said.
