All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi made a deal with VK Sasikala’s nephew and leader of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) TTV Dhinakaran for the upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu.
The Hyderabad MP-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) is scheduled to contest from three seats in the states of Vaniyambadi, Sankarapuram, and Krishnagiri. Dhinakaran declared the tie-up on Twitter.
The climax of Owaisi’s search for electoral partners had originally started with the likelihood of a deal with MK Stalin-headed Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Although rumours came like the DMK was looking to leverage Owaisi for the Chepauk constituency, the seat that Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi was planning to contest from. Afterwards, Owaisi was also told to have talks with Kamal Haasan’s MNM.
Ultimately, a deal formed where Dhinakaran pitched Owaisi against Stalin. The BJP had earlier tried to reduce the gap between the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dhinkaran’s outfit but the deal was not fruitful. Owaisi’s coming into Tamil Nadu politics on the wagon of the expelled AIADMK leader is set to activate a race for anti-BJP votes.
Dhinakaran himself will be contesting from two seats. With Sasikala announcing her exit from politics, it remains to be seen how much support Dhinakaran arranges to draw in the upcoming elections.
