The Bihar government has imposed a complete lockdown till May 15 amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declared the complete lockdown in the state through his tweet. Minister tweeted: “After discussion with the ministers and officials yesterday, it was decided to implement the lockdown in Bihar till May 15”. Vaccination centers, banks, and essential services will remain functional during this lockdown period. The state reported about 11,407 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The tally of COVID-19 cases in India today crossed the 2 crore mark. About 3,57,229 infections were reported in a single day, while the death toll increased to 2,22,408 with 3,449 new fatalities, states the Union Health Ministry data. The tally clearly shows that the COVID-19 cases all across the nation have climbed to 2,02,82,833. Considering the steady increase of the active cases the tally now has reached 34,47,133 comprising 17 percent of the total infections. On the other hand, the national COVID-19 recovery rate was calculated at 81.91 percent, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease raised to 1, 66,13,292. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.10 percent.
The COVID-19 tally of India had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It marked 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and crossed the one-crore mark on December 19. And in the month of April, India crossed the mark of 1.50 crore. As per the ICMR,29,33,10,779 samples have been tested up to May 3 with 16,63,742samples being tested on Monday.
America’s top public health expert and White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed concern over surging coronavirus cases in India. They recommended a nationwide lockdown, a massive vaccination drive, and the construction of a large number of makeshift hospitals.
“It is quite obvious to everyone that the situation in India is extremely serious,” Dr. Fauci, who is considered one of the world’s top infectious disease specialists, stated. He also suggested some rules and protocols in order to tackle the pandemic. Dr. Fauci also stated that victory against the coronavirus was declared by the Indian government “too prematurely”.
