Govt to extend timeline for COVID guidelines in Maharashtra

Ahead of the new year, the Maharashtra government is all set to impose strict vigilance in the state in order to help maintain the COVID guidelines better. The government has extended its vigilance till January 31st, 2021.

According to the sources in the Maharashtra government, the officials considered no need for the extension of the timeline for the COVID19, seeing the steady improvement of the situation, and the falling numbers of the patient count. But, the government decided to keep it imposed for the time citing the new strain of the COVID19 that originated in the UK and entered India through the 6 passengers who were tested and detected with the new strain of the virus.

The home secretary Ajay Bhalla said in a letter to the chief secretaries/administrators of all states/UTs, “Strict vigil is also needed to be maintained to prevent any fresh surge in cases in wake of upcoming New Year celebrations and ongoing winter season which are favourable for the spread of the virus.”
