Earlier in July this year, Zomato launched its IPO and the face of the company in this run-up was Gaurav Gupta. He is popularly known as GG. Gupta was one of the Co-Founders of Zomato and today he decided to leave the company. On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, the company made the announcement through a blog post.
GG left the company when Zomato decided to close its business in grocery delivery. He joined Zomato back in 2015 and was designated as the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2018 and as a co-founder in 2019. Gupta has supported the company in building many businesses. For instance, dining out, Zomato pro, table reservation, sales, and advertising.
Gupta holds an IIT Delhi degree in engineering as well as an MBA degree from IIM Calcutta. CEO Deepinder Goyal and founder of Zomato wished him all the best on Twitter. Goyal wrote on Twitter, “All the best GG for your future, and look forward to continuing being the friends that we are for the rest of our lives. I’m pumped and excited to see what you will cook up next. Make @zomato proud.”
Gupta informed the company about his decision through an email. He wrote “I’m in love with Zomato and always be-the last 6 years at Zomato. I will be starting a new chapter of my life, taking a new turn, and taking a lot from this defining chapter of my life. It’s time for me to take an alternate path in my journey, Zomato has a great team to take the company forward. Feel proud of where we are today, what we have overcome to get here, and feel even more proud of what we will achieve in the future.”
He also thanked everyone and expressed his feeling. He said, “I’m so grateful for all the experience I have had and thankful for all the folks around me for helping me become a much better person. I don’t think any words can do justice to how I’m feeling right now.”
Goyal response to the GG email with a note of thanks and good luck wishes for his future. Goyal said that thank you GG and you have helped Zomato to achieve so much in these few years. We have seen Zomato through great as well as terrible times together and brought it here today. Thankful that you are hanging boots at a point where we have a great team and leadership to carry us forward.
The company decided to close the grocery delivery service on September 17 and the resignation of GG comes just a day after this announcement. Which leading to gaps in order fulfillment and poor customer services. Whereas according to the company investment in Grofers will procreate better outcomes for its shareholders. Zomato invested $100 million in Grofers.
