Bollywood is one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world. It has been successfully influencing Indian society through social commentary, larger-than-life heroes, over-the-top villains, dancing, musical, fashion trends, and much more. However, throughout all these years, Bollywood has also been subjected to an immeasurable amount of criticism. For the past few years, the followers of Bollywood have been constantly questioning the creativity of the directors and the originality of scripts. It has come to that, they are constantly copying South Indian Movies for original ideas. After seeing the constant remakes of south Indian films in Bollywood, fans have claimed that Bollywood is lacking authenticity.
Remaking South Indian Movies in Bollywood
Bollywood generally makes a remake of south Indian movies to offer new movie themes to the audiences and to cash in on what has already been deemed as a hit. But doing a remake of movies is not one-sided. The south Indian film industry making the remake of popular Bollywood movies has also been seen. It’s a give-and-take relationship that is being carried out for the past so many years.
After the success of the Bollywood remakes of South Indian movies like Ghajini (2008), wanted (2009) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Bollywood started the chain reaction of copying the south Indian movies. However, they also kept expecting them to get succeed every single time, and to be honest, it’s a lot to ask for. There are lots of Bollywood remakes that didn’t get success. In fact, they left a sour impression on the viewers. Movies like Ok Janna (2017), Khatta Meetha (2010), Policegiri (2013) are prime examples.
However, following the breakthrough of Kabir Singh (2019) which was the Bollywood remake of the south Indian film Arjun reddy arisen hope in Bollywood once again which resulted in the announcement of several Bollywood remakes. All these south Indian remakes will be released in the following years.
Here is the list of some of the movies that are going to release soon starring prominent actors of Hindi cinema like Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and Saif Ali khan.
The South Indian film (Telegu) Jersey is being remade in Bollywood with the same title. The movie is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. The cast of the movie features Shahid Kapoor in the main lead, along with Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur. The movie is a sports drama and is all set to release on November 5, 2021.
2. Vikram Vedha
Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan are chosen as the cast of the upcoming film Vikram Vedha. Vikram Vedha was originally made in Tamil. The directors of the original film Pushkar and Gayathri will also be directing the remake. It’s the story between the cop (Vedha) and the gangster (Vikram). It’s going to be an action/crime thriller.
3. HIT: The First Case
HIT is another south Indian film that is going to have a remake in Bollywood(Telegu) that we’ll see in the coming up years. The film is still in production and Rajkumar Rao is selected as the protagonist of the film. The original version was released in 2020. The film was made under the direction of Dr. Sailesh Kolanu who will also direct the Hindi version of the film.
Tadap is the Bollywood remake of a south Indian film RX100. Payal Rajput and Kartikeya Gommakonda played the lead role in telegu film RX100.Tadap stars the debutant Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria. The film is directed by Milan Luthria. A love story film Tadap is all set to make its appearance on the screens on September 24, 2021.
Maanagaram is an action thriller film released in 2017. the director of the film was Lokesh Kanagaraj. The remake of the film is titled Mumbaikar. The cast of the film is Vikrant Massey, Sanjay Mishra, and Ranvir Shorey. The director of the film Mumbaikar is Santosh Sivan. Producer Shibu Thameens told some of the details of the movies, he said “ the movie is going to be filmed at night and almost entire Mumbai will be covered in the making”.The film is still in making and will release soon.
6. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru
Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru is another Tamil film that is going to have a remake in Bollywood. It was released in 2016 and was written and directed by Karthick Naren, Bollywood upcoming movie titled Sanki is the remake of the same, featuring Varun Dhawan and Parineeti Chopra in the lead role.
Kaithi is an action/thriller south Indian film and was released in 2019. The film was directed and written by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The remake of Kaithi will be directed by Jagan Shakthi starring prominent actor Ajay devan as the protagonist. The film was originally meant to be released on February 12, 2021, but due to the pandemic, the release date has been postponed.
