Following the huge controversy for hurting religious sentiments in the Amazon Prime Video’s latest edition Tandav, the makers of the show have decided to take action to resolve things.

In his latest Twitter feed, Tandav’s director Ali Abbas Zafar has shared an official statement saying the team is working to implement changes that will be more considerate towards the Hindu sentiment.

“We just want to share a quick update with everybody. We are in further engagement with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to resolve the concerns that have been raised. We value your continued patience and support, and should have a solution shortly.” Ali’s Twitter post reads.

Maharashtra MLA Ram Kadam has previously demanded the removal of the part mocking Lord Shiva and an apology from actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. “Tandava will be boycotted until necessary changes are made. #BanTandavNow. Just as there is a system of censors for reviewing films and serials, a similar arrangement should be made to review series on the OTT platform. Writing to @PrakashJavdekar ji,” he wrote on Twitter in Hindi.

There was an official statement released by the makers previously to address the matter and apologise for unintentionally hurting the religious sentiments. Zafar has mentioned in the statement that they were monitoring the row closely and stressed that the series is a complete work of fiction.

The Statement from the Cast and Crew of Tandav reads,

“We have utmost respect for the sentiments of the people of our country. We did not intend to hurt or offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead. The cast & crew of Tandav have made the decision to implement changes to the web series to address the concerns raised towards the same. We thank the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the guidance & support in the matter. We once again apologize if the series has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiment”

The controversy broke out due to a scene in the first episode of the series where it allegedly pokes fun out of Lord Shiva played by Md Zeeshan Ayyub. Following the scene, many political figures expressed outrage and demanded to ban the show.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Kotak wrote directly to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar to ban the series for ridiculing Hindu deities. “Different organisations and individuals have complained that Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been ridiculed in Tandav web series. Comments have been passed about them,” he said.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued notice to Amazon Prime to seek its response to the complaints but there hasn’t been any official statement out from the OTT platform.
