The Delhi Police has reportedly arrested 44 people including the individual who attacked the Alipur SHO during the violent break out at Singhu border on Friday afternoon.

A thorough investigation has currently been initiated while a criminal case under various sections including ‘attempt to murder’ has been registered against the culprits. According to a report released by The Indian Express, all 44 arrested were farm protesters.

“Accused Ranjeet Singh, a resident of village Kazampur, Distt Naya Shehar, PS Rahu, Punjab, age 22 years who attacked SHO Alipur with sword has been arrested from the spot,” a senior police officer said.

The situation at Singhu border deteriorated on Friday afternoon as the local people clashed with the protesting farmers. The group of men claiming to be from nearby villages revealed that they wanted to get rid of the 2-month old road blockage due to the ongoing farmer’s protest. The heated arguments became more intense as stone, lathis and swords were involved. However, the situation came under control after police were compelled to resort to lathi-charge and use tear gas shells.

Meanwhile, the farmer unions had announced that 30 January would be observed as ‘Sadhbavna Diswas’. All the leaders are to observe a fast from 9 am to 5 pm to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.
