2020 movie release calendar was turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Bollywood seems to set high hopes looking forward to 2021 and planning to welcome moviegoers to the cinema halls back again following a variety of movie releases of various genres.
Several big-budget movies that were pushed back due to the pandemic and lockdown are now scheduled for different release dates in 2021. However, there will be a huge competition with the new films which were originally scheduled for this year. Let’s have a look at some of the blockbusters coming our way this year.
Rohit Shetty’s Cop-Universe seems to expand more as the Akshay Kumar led Sooryanvanshi is set to hit theatres anytime between January-March 2021. The titular character will have a fan-favorite team-up between the three cops including Ajay Devgan from ‘Singham’ and Ranveer Singh from ‘Simmba’. The film is expected to draw a number of the crowd to the theatres considering the star power it has. Support cast includes Katrina Kaif and Jackie Shroff.
Featuring Ranveer Singh, 83 will be displaying the story of India’s first Cricket World Cup win in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s captaincy. Ranveer Singh will be playing the role of the former Indian skipper as Deepika Padukone is set to play the on-screen role of his wife as Romi Dev. 83 is directed by Kabir Khan and it will hit the theatres anytime between the early half of the year.
A planned trilogy produced by Karan Johar and directed by Ayan Mukherji will be featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva in the lead role. Shiva is an Indian deity worshipped by millions over the world. It will be a big take on Indian mythology and everyone is hopeful for a fruitful outcome as the movie will be star-studded. Amitabh Bachhan will be playing Brahma as Nagarjuna Akkineni is set to play Vishnu, another Indian God. It will also feature Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Dimple Kapadia along with Shah Rukh Khan with an undisclosed cameo. The film was pushed back several times, but according to reports, the movie will be released anytime during the second half of 2021.
Another Akshay Kumar-starrer where he will be playing the legendary king. It will be a biopic which is directed by Chandraparaksh Dwivedi while Yash Raj Films produced it. Miss World Manushi Chhillar will be playing the role of Sanyogita opposite Kumar. It was scheduled for a Diwali release in 2020 but due to the pandemic, the date pushed back to an uncertain period in 2021.
Laal Singh Chadda
The official remake of the universally acclaimed ‘Forrest Gump’ will be featuring the Indian perfectionist, Aamir Khan. Advait Chandan who directed ‘Secret Superstar’ is directing the film and Kareena Kapoor will be featured opposite Aamir. Currently, fans are sceptical following Khan’s previous movie ‘Thugs of Hindustan’ being a disaster. Laal Singh Chadda had a scheduled release date for Christmas 2020 but it is pushed back for almost a year now.
One of the most awaited films of 2021, Maidan will feature Ajay Devgan who is set to portray the role of Syed Abdul Rahim who served as the coach and manager of the Indian Football Team from 1950-1963. This sports-drama blockbuster is set for a release date of 15th October and will be directed by Amit Sharma.
Sardar Udham Singh
Following the story, revolutionary patriot Udham Singh assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab under British rule in India. The movie will follow Vicky Kaushal playing the titular role, who is out to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The movie is directed by Shoojit Sircar and it is highly anticipated by the fans. The film has an initial worldwide release date for release on January 15.
